2022 | Steel, wood
An Abstract artist for the 21
st century, James Bearden has produced statement sculpture since 2007 from his workshop in Des Moines, Iowa. His work combines abstract composition, rough-hewn textures, and architectural bearing, and is now widely collected. In 2013, he expanded his repertoire to include functional pieces such as lamps, tables, and cabinets. This console, which expresses itself in Bearden’s unique visual language of hand-wrought Brutalism, has been especially designed for this exhibition. The heavy metal top rides a churning mass of white gold-leafed, angled facets in torch-cut and welded steel.
