Circa 1980s | Wood
French artist Lucien Bénière, born in 1922, studied wood sculpting and molding at the École Nationale Professionnelle de Saint-Étienne. From 1964, Lucien Bénière explored different areas of the plastic arts; first inks (1964 – 1968), and then oils (1969 – 1978). From 1979
onwards he devoted all his time to wood carving. Within modern abstraction, Bénière is a romantic, he seeks to reach an internal knowledge through art, a state where man is one with nature; wood is a hieroglyph of nature and time to Bénière. This beautiful cherry wood sculpture’s combinations of lines and forms create a visual illusion; and depending on your viewing point of the sculpture the form completely transforms. The lower right hand corner of the piece features the artist’s signature.
